What is Pilates?
Why work with Pilates equipment?
...and how can it help you?

Pilates takes its name from Joseph Pilates and was originally called Contrology. It is a powerful and ingenious system of corrective exercises that will transform the body; creating both length and strength in the muscles as well as mobility and stability in the joints. Over the years Pilates has evolved but I strongly believe that the original intention of the method has the ability to truly transform our bodies helping us move and feel better.

Pilates is a low-impact workout effective at strengthening your muscles through controlled, repetitive movements, building muscular endurance and stability. There are many advantages to incorporating Pilates into your routine from increased strength to improved posture. Studies also suggest it may help to improve flexibility, reduce chronic pain and lessen anxiety and depression.

WORKING FROM THE INSIDE OUT

The true method focuses on the use of the “powerhouse” (all the muscles that  move and support the trunk; including the deep, intrinsic & stabilising muscles that directly support the low back and pelvic girdle. A regular Pilates practice helps us to feel, control, strengthen and move from this centered place in our bodies.

PILATES MATWORK &  PILATES EQUIPMENT... A PERFECT MATCH!

The Pilates method was devised as a comprehensive approach utilising different pieces of equipment alongside matwork to fully support your body. The beauty of working in the full Classical Pilates method is that each piece of apparatus was created to help your body progress, or be challenged. Matwork Pilates offers many benefits including challenging our ability to move with control, precision and more importantly understanding where our bodies are in space. This is where the equipment comes in... some clients need more support and others need more challenge. Working with Pilates equipment facilitates both! In order to maximize results choosing the right Pilates equipment for your body and your goals is key.

Pilates equipment is uniquely designed to be able to either assist or challenge you during your workout, so it can meet everyone where they are and no people workout in the same way.

Visit the Pilate Equipment FAQs to learn about the different pieces of apparatus and how they can benefit you.
